Grosz, a German who served during WWI, then fled Hitler and emigrated to the United States, where he continued his art, has some very striking paintings and drawings with subjects of war, explosions, suicide, and man's inhumanity to man. Fascinating stuff. If you want to learn more about Grosz' work, even an image search on Google (use "George Grosz" as the search string, and search within Google's images) will give you plenty to peruse of his talented work.
