Ye Olde Alma Mater, Harvard University, published the results of a study earlier this week, showing that one in eight uninsured Americans is a veteran, and the numbers of uninsured veterans have continued to rise sharply since 2000. Not good news for those who need continuous (meaning, uninterrupted) healthcare to resolve longstanding, chronic conditions like PTSD and the results of combat trauma. Click here to read the story. There are some pretty shocking statistics in there to absorb. Says one doctor quoted in the article, "Only the government can put men and woman into military service and only the government can guarantee that they are covered after they serve."
The study was conducted by researchers from Harvard Medical School, and published in the December, 2007 issue of the American Journal of Public Health.
