Happy Veterans Day to veterans and their families, who sacrifice so much. Please take some time out today to think about, and thank, veterans and their sacrifice, because it's substantial, and dramatically under-acknowledged.
It's a little late to be mentioning this -- sorry! -- but if you want to "learn more about Veterans Day" and what it means; and/or download a poster about it for work; or a teacher's guide, there's information about that at the Department of Veterans Affairs website. The link to the information and downloads page is here.
The Boston Globe had a great article yesterday that we'll be blogging about soon, called "A Promise to Keep," about the return of a New England battalion of Marines from Iraq, and how it's been working out for them since. Wonderful writing by Charles Sennott, that really hits on a number of the key issues with veterans, as well as tells some dramatic stories of their experience in Iraq. Go here to read that.
Worst news of this Veterans Day? That approximately "1 in 4" homeless are Veterans. (More on that later.)
