In more good news coming out of Rhode Island -- John Powers, you still rock -- U.S. Representative Patrick J. Kennedy (D- RI) recently sponsored legislation intended to address the psychological side of combat and PTSD. Kennedy calls PTSD, somewhat mistakenly, "the signature wound" of the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In truth, it was probably the signature wound of the Vietnam War, which is why we're more aware of it now; but it's clearly making a resurgence now, along with closed head trauma and amputations resulting from IEDs, which have seen a huge surge in the current wars, particularly in Iraq. Still, hairsplitting on this hardly matters, what counts is the increased attention for veterans' health that Kennedy's bill is intended to create.
