An article from the island of Wales describes one British combat veteran's healing from long-ago military trauma that's come about as he's worked on a documentary for the BBC called "Hidden Scars". In the article, Falklands veteran Simon Weston talks about the effort it's taken him to "shake off the black dog," what he calls his own personal battle with PTSD. As Weston says, sometimes PTSD "can show itself in the lack of a good sleeping pattern or drinking huge volumes and becoming irrational. You can become totally unreasonable, but it's just a normal reaction to something very abnormal."
Says Weston, "The authorities are very good at looking after the physical well-being of former service people, but far less sensitive to their psychological needs."
